I never knew there were so many definitions for the word, Grace. There are a few that stood out to me:
- Favor or goodwill
- A manifestation of favor, especially by a superior
- Mercy; clemency; pardon
All of these perfectly tie to GOD and HIS Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Every living being on this earth is connected to the grace of GOD. It was made clear in the ninth chapter of Genesis. GOD had just instructed Noah to gather the lives that HE would spare, and take them into the ark. It was an amazing example of who GOD is.
With all the sin on earth, GOD was ready to start over. It was similar to how we live our everyday lives. People and situations can make us so upset that we want to start over. Often, we desire to restart a bad day. Some of us would love to change some of the people that we have in our lives, so it’s not an unusual situation that GOD is dealing with. The only difference is that GOD actually has the power to right any wrong on earth. If needed, HE could start all over and this is exactly what HE did with the help of Noah.
GOD felt that man had let HIM down. The very beings that HE had created and whom was once blessed to live forever was now rebelling. Could you imagine the child you birthed and raised, one day spitting in your face? You worked long days and nights to keep them clothed and a roof over their head, but now they treat you like a worm in mud. Would you wipe away the spit, cloth the child, and put them to bed with a kiss? Or, would you find the nearest object to beat their “backside”? GOD had every reason to be upset. So, we read about our CREATOR wanting to start over. HE wanted to clean the entire earth of its sin, with a flood and give it another chance to be right. Although GOD carried out HIS plan, the result of HIS action placed a covenant of grace that covers us to this day:
Genesis 9:8-11 (KJV)
“And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.”
This display of grace shows favor, mercy, and goodwill for mankind. It’s the same grace we receive for the mistakes we’ve made. Imagine if GOD had a button HE would push to replace us, every time we made a mistake or did wrong. Being GOD, HE could simply start over. If I created a log for all the bad decisions I’ve made, GOD could have easily made one-hundred or more Nicholas’s. But the beauty of HIS grace is that HE restructured my life, so that I could right my own wrong. HE didn’t get rid of me, but HE got rid of my situation. Times that I could have been in prison or laying in someone’s grave is a result of HIS grace. It’s even clearer, when you witness a similar situation like yours that resulted in death or prison time.
A relationship with GOD helps you realize that it is only grace that you are yet breathing and living on this earth. Even people that don’t have a personal relationship with GOD have enough sense to thank HIM for making a way, out of no way. This series will walk us through the grace of GOD. It will not only help those that lack understanding, but help people like myself reflect on how good GOD has been. This very moment that you have to read this series is simply grace in the making. If there’s ever been a reason to give GOD thanks, it’s now. HIS love for life and HIS creation is truly phenomenal.
Let’s take this journey on grace.
